Moxtek Polarisers

The Moxtek linear polarisers and beam splitters are constructed completely from inorganic materials. This allows them to be more tolerant to high temperature or high photon flux environments compared to organic polymer film polarisers. This is especially important in UV curing and projection display applications.

All parts are cut from 200 mm diameter wafers, enabling great flexibility in custom shapes or sizes. Cut parts can then be mounted, or encapsulated to add an additional layer of protection.

Polariser Comparison Tool

Due to the nature of these components, there exists very few standard configurations. Therefore, please contact us to discuss your specific requirement.

Moxtek can provide protective mounting for their polariser plates that reduce the risk of damaging the wire-grid polariser structure. These mounts come in standard sizes shown in the included datasheet.

MODELS

BIR Series – NIR to SWIR

BIR series polarisers are designed for the near-wave (NW) & mid-wave (MW) infrared regions from 700nm to 2.5μm. These polarisers are optimised with a high contrast version and a high transmission version.

SIR Series – MWIR to LWIR

SIR series polarisers are designed for mid-wave (MW) & long-wave (LW) infrared regions from 3-5μm and from 8-12μm using AR coated silicon substrates. These broadband polarisers are designed to have both excellent contrast and transmission.

If an extreme amount of contrast is needed, two infrared high contrast polarisers can be stacked together.

  • >20° half angle without performance loss
  • Wavelength and AOI independent
  • High heat resistance

Pixelated Wire-Grid Polarisers

Moxtek has created unique inorganic Pixelated Polarisers using an array of micro-pattered Nanowire® grids. These versatile custom polarisers can be aligned with cameras, plane arrays, interferometers, and microbolometers without the need for mechanical polariser switches.  Using our Pixelated Polarisers, vibrant images distinguishing between multiple polarisations across the visible and IR wavelengths can be captured simultaneously in real-time enabling fast, high resolution images.   These polarisers also enable clear 2D and 3D images even in low-light conditions.  We offer patterned polarisers for two, three and four-state imaging devices.

Pixelated polarisers are designed to incorporate different polarisation angles into a single array, when combined with a CCD/CMOS camera, enables real-time polarimetry.  Traditional polarimetry requires multiple images be taken with different polarisations and multiple cameras precisely aligned to each other.  The resulting image data must then be carefully overlaid and aligned which requires added time, equipment, and precision. Pixelated polarisers enable real-time imaging when speed and resolution is critical. Recently, Moxtek has further developed a NanoImprint Lithography (NIL) fabrication process, rendering improved performance and uniformity across pixels while allowing potential wafer level imprint with alignment.

Imaging polarimeters map a scene of interest using the polarisation state of light instead of color as in traditional cameras. Polarisation provides high contrast information about surface features such as shape, shading, and roughness. Traditional methods require combining and precisely aligning data from two separate images which requiring added time, equipment, and space. The pixelated polariser, when attached to an image sensor, enables a number of different types of images to be obtained simultaneously as illustrated in the figures on page two of the datasheet.

Various other applications of Pixelated Polarisers include: Encoders, lasers and sensing.

UltraViolet Polarisers for UV and broadband applications

Moxtek Ultraviolet polarisers are used for a wide range of UV and broadband applications where performance, contrast, and durability is important. The UVT and UVD Series polarisers offer excellent broadband performance into the IR wavelengths. New applications are emerging.

The UVT and UVD Series ProFlux Nanowire Ultraviolet polarisers offer excellent solutions for UV and DUV applications. High transmission and high contrast choices are available. The high transmission products are indicated by UVT and the high contrast products are indicated by UVD. The UVT series are naturally capable of broadband applications into the NIR spectral range to 4μm.

Use of polarisers in the ultraviolet spectrum is a demanding environment. ProFlux is ready for the challenge.

Typical applications include UV curing, forensics, photo-alignment and spectrophotometry. The UVD parts in particular are an excellent alternative to Glan-Taylor or Glan-Thompson components commonly found in commercial spectrophotomer instruments.

Heat tolerant visible polarisers

Moxtek visible polarisers are heat tolerant, accept wide angles of incidence, and have high transmission and contrast. These features make them excellent for use in projection applications. Their light weight and small size also make them ideal for use in head mounted displays.

We offer both reflective and absorptive polarisers.

Optimised to provide uniform polarisation

The Moxtek ProFlux® Ultra Broadband polarisers are optimised to provide uniform polarisation over a broad range from 300 nm to more than 4 microns. The versatility of our high contrast broadband products eliminate the need to switch or rotate multiple polarisers.

Transmission is relatively constant from 400nm to 3.2 microns while contrast increases throughout this range.
