X-Ray Microscopy Webinar Round Up

Sigray and Quantum Design Italy present a number of fascinating webinars featuring Dr. Wenbing Yun, a pioneer and leader in x-ray instrumentation.

Sigray, the experts in x-ray microscopy have released a number of fascinating webinars that you can watch now. Hosted in conjunction with our sister company, Quantum Design Italy, the webinars cover a number of topics including:

  1. Characterisation of in operando batteries: elemental distribution, chemical state, and structural analysis
  2. Laboratory x-ray approaches for biological and polymeric materials
  3. Recent innovations in x-ray approaches with synchrotron-class performance

Advances in laboratory x-ray techniques for characterisation of in operando batteries

Recent innovations in laboratory techniques provide accessibility to the critically needed x-ray analytical capabilities previously only available at synchrotrons. In this webinar, Dr. Wenbing Yun, a pioneer and leader in x-ray instrumentation, discusses the systems that these innovations have enabled, including:

  • The first synchrotron-grade x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) that enable chemical (e.g. oxidation) state and bond length information of in operando electrodes
  • Elemental migration in battery using microXRF
  • 3D nano x-ray microscopy for electrode particle imaging
  • New darkfield x-ray microscopy that provides information on nanoparticle migration in lithium ion batteries

Major innovations in laboratory x-ray approaches for biological and polymeric materials

X-rays are an underutilised approach that can provide unprecedented insight into major biological and polymeric material questions at the microscopic scale. However, laboratory systems have been bottle necked in their ability to produce and focus soft x-rays. Dr. Wenbing Yun, a pioneer and leader in x-ray instrumentation, discusses recent advances in laboratory x-ray techniques for soft materials, enabling applications, including:

  • 3D ultrastructure of cells, which provides powerful capabilities for correlative imaging of structural context to overlay with super-resolution techniques
  • Concentrations of trace nutrient and metal analysis in biological tissue, such iron distribution in Alzheimer’s disease brain and sulphur/phosphorus ratios in tissue
  • Phase and darkfield imaging of cancerous tumours
  • Distribution of nanoparticle-based drugs in tumours.

Recent innovations in x-ray approaches with synchrotron-class performance

Dr. Wenbing Yun hosts this webinar on recent developments in laboratory approaches that are reaching synchrotron-class performance. The systems include:

  •  The first synchrotron-grade laboratory x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) system for chemical (e.g. oxidation) state analysis Micro x-ray fluorescence for chemical compositional measurements of ultratrace elements at sub-ppm concentrations and single digit microns-scale resolution
  • An ultrahigh spatial resolution (35nm) x-ray microscope that brings new capabilities for 3D polymer blend and cellular imaging in the laboratory
  • A multi-contrast x-ray microscope for novel battery and carbon fibre reinforced polymer imaging (pre-release).
