We are celebrating 23 years of Spectroscopic Ellipsometry workshops with our partners, J A Woollam.

This free of charge workshop is aimed at both experienced ellipsometry users as well as people new to ellipsometry.  The format of the workshop includes an introduction, fundamentals of ellipsometric data analysis, and an overview of ellipsometric applications in both research and production. New emerging applications are highlighted.

Application engineers from J A Woollam will give talks on the following topics:

About the Optoelectronics Research Centre

The event will be hosted by the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) and the CORNERSTONE Silicon Photonics MPW (Multi Project Wafer) service at the University of Southampton. The ORC is one of the world’s leading institutes for photonics research.

The ORC is a vibrant community of researchers, led by some of the leading figures in the field of photonics, who have contributed significantly to the remarkable growth of the photonics industry, including the optical telecommunication technology that underpins the internet as well as solutions in medicine, biosciences sensing, security and manufacturing.

CORNERSTONE offers an open source, license free Silicon Photonics rapid prototyping foundry based in the UK. Our prototyping platforms utilise industrially-compatible deep-UV projection lithography to enable seamless scaling-up of production volumes, whilst retaining device level innovation capability using high-resolution e-beam lithography and versatility in our process flows and platforms.

Both the J. A. Woollam Spectroscopic Ellipsometry Workshop and the J. A. Woollam CompleteEASE Software Training Course, as a whole, was a very interesting and informative event, engaging its attendees to participate in the discussion of the various seminars and training sessions. From the workshop you had an introduction to spectroscopic ellipsometry and its applications, as well as exposure to the latest research in the field, showcasing real-world use cases in advanced characterisation. This definitely provided the necessary background and context for newly acquainted users, as well as serving as a “refresher” for more experienced users.

Sample Measurement

We encourage delegates to bring samples for measurement on the day.  Please get in touch to get a sample submission form (any we can’t do on the day we will take away to do at the US factory).

“Excellent introduction to SE”

Chris Morgans, Swansea University

“We’re really proud to be in our third decade of the JA Woollam/QDUKI hosted ellipsometry events here in the UK. It’s a privilege to meet existing and new users each year. They really shape how the workshop and short course works, so it’s never the same. Over the last 20+ years we’ve been able to present new developments and capabilities as well as introduce new products to ellipsometer users.”
