Researchers and engineers working with advanced temperature measurement systems now have a new point of contact for the Lake Shore Cryotronics temperature product range in the UK and Ireland. Quantum Design UK and Ireland is pleased to introduce Michael Barr, who joins the team as Technical Sales Engineer, supporting customers with applications involving the company’s industry-leading cryogenic temperature instrumentation from Lake Shore Cryotronics.
Michael brings a strong academic background in experimental and applied physics, combined with expertise in data analysis, statistical reasoning, and mathematical modelling. This technical foundation enables him to understand complex research challenges and work closely with scientists and engineers to identify the most effective measurement solutions for their applications.
In his role, Michael will support users of the extensive Lake Shore temperature product portfolio, which includes temperature sensors, controllers, monitors, AC resistance bridges, current sources, and accessories designed for precise measurement and control across an exceptionally wide temperature range—from below 20 mK up to more than 1,500 K. These technologies are widely used in areas such as materials science, nanotechnology, semiconductor research, energy technologies, and fundamental physics, where stable and accurate temperature control is essential for reliable experimental results.
The Lake Shore portfolio includes multiple sensor technologies, such as silicon diode sensors, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), thermocouples, and Cernox® sensors, allowing researchers to select the most suitable solution for their measurement environment. Combined with advanced temperature controllers featuring low-noise measurement circuitry, multi-channel inputs, and programmable control loops, these systems enable precise temperature stabilisation and seamless integration with modern laboratory automation platforms.
Commenting on his appointment, Michael said:
“I look forward to supporting researchers and engineers with clear technical communication and problem-solving.”
