Did you know… The Lake Shore M81-SSM Integrates with our PPMS?

It’s true! The Lake Shore M81 Synchronous Source Measure (SSM) system can integrate with the Quantum Design PPMS (Physical Property Measurement System). This integration allows for advanced measurement capabilities, particularly in electrical transport measurements, by combining the PPMS’s environmental control (temperature and magnetic field) with the M81’s synchronised sourcing and measurement features.

Quantum Design PPMS® Physical Property Measurement System

The Quantum Design PPMS represents a unique concept in laboratory equipment: an open architecture, variable temperature-field system, designed to perform a variety of automated measurements.

The PPMS provides a controlled environment for sample measurements with temperature control from 1.9 K to 400 K and magnetic fields up to 16 Tesla. The M81-SSM, on the other hand, excels at synchronised AC and DC sourcing and measurement, crucial for advanced electrical characterisation, according to Lake Shore.

MeasureLINK software is used to interface the M81 with the PPMS, enabling automated control of both systems. This allows for complex measurement sequences where the PPMS controls the temperature and magnetic field while the M81 performs synchronised measurements.

The M81-SSM’s ability to synchronise sourcing and measurement channels is particularly beneficial for measuring AC transport properties, like impedance and AC resistance, in the PPMS. The system also supports DC measurements, including I-V curves and differential resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of electrical characterisation tasks.

This integration is useful for characterising various materials, including semiconductors, superconductors, and nanomaterials, especially when precise control over both temperature and electrical parameters is needed. The M81-SSM’s low-noise performance is also advantageous for measuring small signals in these materials.
